Hello,
Today I updated my Boinc Client to 6.6.20.
I also updated my NVIDIA GeForce 8600m GS NVIDIA driver to 7.15.11.138
Boinc says I don’t have a CUDA device!
System Spec:
Laptop - Acer 5920G
2GHz Intel Dual Core 4MB Cache, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, GeForce 8600m GS.
OS: Vista Business 32bit
I was under the impression that all NVIDIA cards above 8400 and with 256MB or more RAM were CUDA capable, but Boinc does not detect it as being so!
My desktop system has a GeForce 8600 GT and that is running GPUGrid!

Is my laptop capable of running CUDA?

Thanks,

It should be CUDA capable, but with only 16 shaders I don't think it could complete a task within the 5 day deadline...

But still BOINC should show it as a CUDA device. Mybe the drivers aren't CUDA capable? From the naming scheme it looks like they are from your Laptop manufacturer? Maybe try the Notebook drivers directly from the Nvidia website - http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html

Thank you on behalf of all GeForce 8600m GS users!

I meerly did as you said, installed NVIDIAs latest (15.11.7948) driver
and hay presto, CUDO Device Detected :) Obviously the Microsoft Update was not so up to date!

Thanks, LL the Time Bandit

Alternatively you can take a look here for even newer drivers (your 179.48 also seems a bit old). But these may not work properly and/or not properly support the power saving features. Experiment at your own risk, if you like.
