I'm not sure if I've finally burned my GTX 280, or if its some serious driver issues under windows xp 32.

I woke up today and found my computer rebooted, possibly due to some Microsoft auto patches. This happened to me, too. After that I got no video signal any more. First I thought it could be a driver problem. But an install of the GTX 295 into a brand new PC immediately causes beeps signaling a damaged video card. 480 Euros are gone. :- ( ____________

I woke up today and found my computer rebooted, possibly due to some Microsoft auto patches. I'm slowly heading into thinking its REALLY burned! Other forums suggested that I reinstall XP, since I had windows 7 lying around and never really tested it, I went for that path. Still garbled after installing 7. I switched the PCI-E slot, still garbled! Only thing I have'nt tried is try to change the power rails, since my antec 850 has built in pci-e rails and 2 free connectors that I need to get cables for. And last but not least, try a different motherboard.

Try the card on another computer.

Download this and run it - one look will tell you if the card is zapped

Download this and run it - one look will tell you if the card is zapped @Zydor Thanks - but there is no video signal with the card inserted into the PC. So I can't use this. :- ( I don't think the warrenty period on your 295 is already over? @ETA The card was running perfectly and presumably got damaged by a reboot. Hence it wouldn't be okay for me to ask the dealer for a new one on warranty. But thanks for the idea. :- ) ____________

The card was running perfectly and presumably got damaged by a reboot. Hence it wouldn't be okay for me to ask the dealer for a new one on warranty. Damaged by a reboot? Sounds really unlikely! Unless the reboot was caused by a temporary overvoltage, think thunderstorm / lightning. Or: maybe the dying card caused the reboot? Apart from voltage, temperature, a bios flash or an elefant on the run there's nothing [I can think of right now] that could destroy a card, certainly not a reboot in a healthy motherboard. I'd rather suspect the card died due to usage.. a case the manufacturer should be responsible for. MrS ____________ Scanning for our furry friends since Jan 2002

That is why I chose to buy XFX brand video cards. When getting the same model video card, the only physical difference I could find between one brand and another was the sticker they put on them, and maybe if they tweaked the vbios settings. I knew with CUDA, I'd be working mine hard. So, for me, it came down to who stands behind them best, and XFX offers a lifetime warranty, even if you overclock. Hopefully, yours is by XFX and you registered it within 30 days. I think that's the only requirement they have. If so, go here to get yours replaced...

I've never seen an nVidia board partner with a warranty of under 1 year, and the 295 has been on the market less than 3 months.

That lifetime warrenty seems nice, but apparently it's not available in Europe. Don't know about Thamirs country, though.

That lifetime warrenty seems nice, but apparently it's not available in Europe. Don't know about Thamirs country, though. Its... complicated. :P I bought my card while I was vacationing in London last August. It was a leadtek. I've lost the receipt, and the store name! I've jumped ships now, I found an ATI 4870x2 at the local stores here and bought it. The price is comparable to US averages. Most stores had Nvidias 285s that sells at twice the US average. The local store had a: "NO EXCHANGE, NO WARRANTY, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS WRONG AND WE ARE RIGHT" attitude on the invoice. I've installed windows 7 and got the beta drivers and now I'm too lazy to do the online registration. Don't have time to mingle around with it but I'm considering switching to milkyway@home or folding and burn this thing in another 6 months. :P Either that or set the fan speed to 100% instead of auto!

The ATIs absolutely rock at Milkyway.. I know what I'd be doing if I had one. Put it into some PC, which is far enough away so I don't have to hear the noise and let it crunch.. with some cooling ;)

I can tell you for a fact you have indeed fried your card. I have fried two, yes that's $1200 dollars CDN, GTX 280's. One at the begining of Feb and the other about 2 weeks ago. Lucky like pharrg said, I bought XFX. First RMA'd card I get on Monday 16 Mar. Second one well still waiting for an RMA #.

I'll have to check later today considering I'm wasting time at work :P, but I did some quick searching on leadtek Taiwan, and they wont warrant any product sold outside north America and they also wont ship anything outside North America. I'll have to think of a workaround to RMA it. ;) In the meantime I've jumped to ATI. They might be the underdogs, and personally with all the web opinions and biased review sites of who is the greatest its really hard to form an opinion, so I'll keep my mouth shut. :P

Serial number: 0062208010473 Bios version: 62.00.0e.00.01 Interesting, that I see a sticker with an if removed, warranty is invalid, dated 2008/6/02

Duh, what was I thinking. Your card is not XFX, so it should not have the same serial. The serial you must be using is the one under the barcode and funny thing about that is my last three are 322 where yours is 473. It makes me wonder if that is a serial or a barcode number. One thing I noticed your BIOS is 62.00.0E.00.01, mine is 62.00.0E.00.75, that a big change if there were 74 iterations in the one month difference of date of manufacturing.

Within Europian Economic Community.

Within the UK you have 1 year minimum warranty, I have a nagging feeling this has recently been updated to two years, just don't tell them you ran it 24/7 crunching, as they will probably try to claim you were not using it for its intended purpose.

Yeah, might have been 2 years from the EU, not entirely sure what product categories that covered however.
