Hi everybody. I understand that my video card isn't very powerful nor the latest one, but according to this site I should be able to crunch for this project.
BUT... after 3 seconds from the start, I got this kind of error:
PM|GPUGRID|Output file R21837-SH2_US_2-25-40-SH2_US_2250000_1_1 for task R21837-SH2_US_2-25-40-SH2_US_2250000_1 absent

I checked one of the WUs "crunched" on my profile page, and what I get is:
<core_client_version>6.4.5</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
Funzione non corretta. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1)
</message>
<stderr_txt>
Failed to set low-cpu sync mode
# Using CUDA device 0
# Device 0: "GeForce 8500 GT"
# Clock rate: 918000 kilohertz
# Total amount of global memory: 268107776 bytes
# Number of multiprocessors: 16
# Number of cores: 128
Cuda error in file '..\force/vdw_texture.cu' in line 186 : feature is not yet implemented.

</stderr_txt>
]]>

("Funzione non corretta" is an Italian sentence, since I live in Italy).
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I have the latest drivers for my video card.
Can you help to solve this problem?

Thank you in advance, anyway.

Something is wrong about your software setup: the number of cores / multiprocessors is not detected properly.

We had one report of such an error before, but if I remember correctly we couldn't get him to report the driver version he used. Which version do you use? You might want to try 178.24 or 181.22, these surely work.

And never mind the "Funzione non corretta" (incorrect function in English). The real message is "Cuda error in file '..\force/vdw_texture.cu' in line 186 : feature is not yet implemented."

Maybe I don't understand the "drivers matter" very well, but I'll try to explain myself... since my video card is under the section called "Computing capability 1.1 - it works", I downloaded the CUDA 1.1 drivers (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21_whql.html). Unfortunately that drivers has already been installed when I bought my pc. So, from what I understand, I have the latest drivers for my video card. Or am I wrong? Should I install the drivers you mentioned?

I won't say you are wrong ... :)

But, the driver versions are fairly well known to work. If you are having a driver problem, the upgrade will cure it. If you are NOT having a driver problem, well, the change will not make a difference.

Since it does not take that long to install the drivers, well, *I* would recommend it ... what do you have to lose? ")

You may have the latest drivers for your video card.

But you have to be running a video driver of 'newer than' 177.67, not the 169.21 you mention.

Try one of the video drivers ExtraTerrestrial Apes mentions (178.24 or 181.22) and that should help...

Your 169.21 are definitely too old. Any (newer) Forceware (=nVidia driver) will work for your card and there's no need to look for special CUDA editions. It's included into every WHQL driver (the official ones) and it's just that something may be broken in some beta drivers.

Your problem arises from the not-obvious fact that there is CUDA hardware capability (1.1 for your card) and the CUDA software version. GPU-Grid is using software version 2.0 now, which requires at least hardware capability 1.1. Your old driver may support software version 1.0 or 1.1, but not 2.0.
