Will I get any work units or am I flogging a dead horse?

My 8800's are in SLI but it seems BOINC only sees one card :(

Sorry for the n00b question

Yes and yes ... :)

There are issues with the server code due to changes made by UCB ... it is being worked but it means mere mortals have to suffer ... :(

I don't know the technical reason why the SLI mode is not handled properly, but, yes, only one card will be seen and used. This is a known current limitation, one among many with BOINC's use of CUDA...

Remember, this is all very new territory ... once we get the server issues sorted out we still have several other issues with BOINC Manager that are likely to be with us for several months ... and as we try to debug the various attempts to fix the BOINC Manager we will likely be hip deep in it for some time.

And the only stupid question is the one you don't ask ...

so ask away, ignore those that snipe ... be patient and usually someone more qualified than I will be along momentarily to help you out ...

If you disable SLI BOINC should see and also use both cards.

Iser - have you chcked this thread in the FAQ message board??

Looks to me as if you are flogging not 1 but 2 dead horses, so disabling SLI won't help in your case!

If the boards were on the working list - yes you would need to disable SLI so Boinc could see both.

Unfortunately G80 based cards like your 8800GTS 640 can not be supported, only G9x and upwards.

Thanks for that,

I'd missed the message board article.

Guess this will be my shortest BOINC project ever

Bring back SETI@Home LOL

I'll be disconnecting from the project and re-enabling my SLI after this post

So Long and Thanks for all the Fish..

What is the amount of Ram on your 8800 GTS..? If it is 512, then you do have a G92 GPU. And there is another reason why your GPU is not working.

I also don't see what driver you were using. It had to be 177.xx or better.

The 320 / 640 mb version is the G80 GPU...and will not work here. But it will work on other gpu projects.

Your welcome...Don't Forget Your Towel...!!

Unfortunately I have a pair of 640 MB BFG 8800 GTS OC's

Teach me not to fully research the Video Cards when I bought my quad.

There's still SETI I suppose that can use the CUDA

Just wanted to see what a difference using your GPU vs your CPU would be

Got my towel and my babel fish :)

Sorry to hear you had a problem with the GPU's. This is not quite your normal BOINC project, and a little research is needed before you jump in (20/20 hindsight..;)

There are more than 30 nVidia GPU's that will work with this application. You just happened to pick 1 of only a handful that this application won't 'play nice' with....

SaH is having its own troubles with CUDA at the moment. THey moved all the stuff out of NC so I don't knwo what the latest word is, but, the application can crash and take out the display too (fixed on reboot) ...

Read the fora before jumping in over there ...
