For the past few days, I've frequently been running out of tasks to run. My GPUs are mostly idle because of that. Is this a regular thing at GPUGRID?

Unfortunately, this is not new at all with GPUGRID :-(

I do not understand the details, but they are having trouble with a new version of the software.
I may be wrong, but I believe they are trying to make the software compatible with the new NVidia RTX cards or something.
But I find it strange that they give this such a high priority:
How many people have an RTX card? Like 1 % of all of us?
At the same time the other 99 % get no WUs either.

I only have GT710, GT730, GTX745 and GT1030 cards, so I can only accept short work units, because my cards are too slow for the big work units.
And there have been almost no short work units for several weeks now. :-(

So, you are not the only one complaining.

But we must not forget that these people have a lot of scientific work to do in the first place.
I don't think that managing the GPUGRID project is their full-time job.

In the meantime, you can try out some other projects as temporary backup GPU project:
SETI, Einstein, MilkyWay...
I know, I prefer to help healthcare too, rather than listen to ET or look for pulsars, but well...

Let's have some patience with these good people.

Have a nice day!
Carl

It seems like this happens every year, I think it may be tied to the end of the semester and November graduates. I also see a pause around the time of the European Holiday in August-September. When the next semester starts and the new students submit their research it should pick up. -I Hope :>)

If you want to put your GPU to work, then you can do non BOINC like Folding@home or you can run Amicable numbers (about 4-6 gpu projects in that group) or run Prime Grid or Moo Wrapper. LHC has ATLAS which is a memory hog and will work your GPU just as hard as Prime Grid.

Plenty of projects to run until this group gets back online.

I have a couple of other BOINC GPU projects running when GPUGRID is out of work.

Milkyway@Home
Einstein@Home

and also

SETI@home when I feel like it.

The resource shares are set like this.

GPUGRID - 10,000
Milkyway - 1,000
Einstein - 0
SETI - 10 (Won't get new tasks)

Yes, I know. Sorry for the shortage. I'm preparing new wus. Doing it correctly takes time and it's the bottleneck.

Also, we are drying up the acemd2 queue for transitioning to acemd3.

Thank you for your kind news.
This will make the wait more bearable.
Good luck with that,

Yes, thank you Toni for the update. Will have to suffer through the greylisting though for a while I guess.
