I'm thinking of replacing one of my desktops - but with such a strong power limit that there are very few suitable desktops available.

I've found one with a higher capability CPU, but I can't find enough information to tell how good the available GPU is. It is available with a Quadro P620. What is the expected performance of that card compared with a GeForce GTX 1050 or a GeForce GT 545?

Also, will the Quadro P620 run GRUGRID tasks? I know that the GT 545 won't, and the GTX 1050 should.

Cards with a recommended system power supply greater than 300 watts are not of interest for this.

I would consider a GTX1050 Ti (75 watt TDP with 300 watt minimum power supply)

Here's a link comparing theoretical performance parameters of the 1050 Ti to a Quadro P620:

I mentioned a GTX 1050 only as something I find more familiar; it does not appear to even fit in the desktop I'm thinking of ordering, and recommends a higher wattage power supply than the 250 watts that desktop provides without going over the 300 watt limit. However, I'll probably choose a GTX 1050 Ti if I find another desktop offered with a 300 watt, from a reliable computer company like HP.

I have a HP desktop with a 300 W power supply running Windows 10, and it crashed often while running GPU task on a GTX 1050 Ti board. I have installed a GTX 750 board and it runs both Windows 10 and a Virtual SuSE Linux Tumbleweed. But this later says it cannot find any suitable GPU board, and insists I hava a VMWare board that I don't have. while Windows GPU tasks run perfectly both in Einstein, SETI and also GPUGRID,even it it has only a 1 GB video Ram while the GTX 1050 Ti had 4 GB RAM.

Tullio, could you mention what model of HP desktop you have, so I can avoid that model?

I'm still looking for some other model of HP desktop with a 300 W power supply, currently available.

HP Pavilion 500-152ea. It is running Windows 10 1809 version, VirtualBox 6.04 and Virtual SuSE Tumbleweed running Einstein@home CPU tasks. The virtual machine does not use the GTX 750 board although I have installed the nVidia drivers. It has 24 GB DDR3 RAM and a 1 TB hard disk.

You may need a little more head room on the power supply to run a 1050 Ti. Here's one with a 400 watt power supply.

biodoc, the location does not permit using that much headroom.

However, last night I found an HP desktop listed with a GTX 1050 Ti and a 310 watt power supply. I decided that the location should allow using 10 watts of headroom, so I ordered one.

The Palit GTX 1050 Ti which I had installed in the PC with a 300 W PSU used to go beyond 70 C. The GTX 750 I am using now runs at about 67 C. It may be slower but it does not crash.

New kid on the block: GTX 1660. It should cost about 300 USD.

Useless until a new science app is released for Turing and Volta.
