Not a big worry, but for the last three days one of my hosts has only been receiving Short WUs. I have made no changes myself and have no config file on this host. I am pool mining under Gridcoin, so can't set preferences. Up until three days ago, I got a mix of long and short WUs.

My second host continues to receive a mix during the same timeframe.

Any idea what could have happened? (Still doing science -- just trying to learn!)

The past few days the server has been low on Work Units (WUs.) You can at any time check the "Server Status" at the top right of this website and look for "Longs runs" and "Short runs" and look for "unsent." If "Unsent" is more than 0 then you will probably get a WU, but if unsent is 0 then you most likely will not get that type of WU until sometime in the future.

If you would like to change your preferences to only accept Long WUs but have Short WUs as a backup (this is what most people do with fast GPUs) you can leave the gridcoin pool and become solo. If you need help with any step along the way, let me know.

It appears that even with plenty of WUs now available, still only getting the short versions on this host. I am going to reset on Boinc after the current WUs are complete.

Could I have a memory problem as well? Boinc shows 2.84 GB free and available to Boinc with 1.9 in use by Boinc.

As to solo mining -- yes, I am thinking about it, but still scared of the apparently long times between staking. Currently I am at 4100 GRC and estimated time to earn rewards has been in the 33 day category. Seems a long time to wait for mining effort.

Figured it out. It was a memory problem.
