There appear to have been no new GPU workunits for the last 24 hours. Could you mention a reason for this? How long do you plan to let this continue?

Switching from GPU workunits to CPU workunits like this can present a problem for users who already allow a variety of CPU tasks - neither of my computers has downloaded any of the new CPU workunits yet, apparently because the statistics from previous GPU tasks tell them to only wait for more of the GPU tasks.

This is normal for GPUGrid. Setup another project with 0% resource share as a backup project.

I understand workload comes and goes at GPUGrid. So the real question is, are there any researchers/projects coming up in the near future? Any new grad students / post docs waiting in the wings?? Or are they finished with GPU-based tasks???

Thanks,

Win

They just hired a new person, Dominik, which is working on the CPU based tasks. They still have two doctoral students working on the GPU side of things (Adria and Pablo.) And they just posted "now hiring" a PhD position in their news listing in the forums. I would say this project is much more active than it was last year.

The work will always fluctuate. I just want their work to be processed and returned as fast as possible.

It seems that not enough GPU Tasks are coming down and are Being Taken over by the new CPU Task.
I would be nice to see some steady GPU Tasks from GPUGRD.net.
Maybe you can create a New Project Site and move the CPU Tasks off of the GPUGRD Side and call the New Project CPUGRD.net and this way we might get back to using our Graphic Cards on our Windows OS Based Hosts.

The CPU tasks are completely separate work from the GPU tasks and aren't 'being taken over'.

I've had 8 tasks in the past day. The overall GPU task availability has taken two noticeable step downs in the past several weeks. See the Daily Points chart.

is any other bio/health GPU project left in BOINC ? Thats why I switched back to FAH but that would let me miss the next batch of GPU-WU here.

This has been an ongoing issue for GPUGrid - the problem has existed for years -- too little work for users. It gets worse when other projects are coping with an outage. Collatz is dealing with one now so folks who have GPUGrid as an alternative project are trying (with rare success) to get workunits here.

Just run a backup project in the mean time, something like Folding@home

That doesn't use BOINC so it would require some scripts to check for GPUGrid tasks and run out FAH if there is GPUGrid task. Also have it set to immediately pause GPUGrid once a task downloads. FAH has QRB so points drop the longer a user takes complete the work from the time its downloaded.

Best to stick with a BOINC project as backup.
