If you start using gridcoin, the credit can be exchanged for money

It is like reputation. However, you can earn some via Gridcoin as the previous commenter said. However, you'll start to get paid for newer credits, not previous ones; actually not for only credits but contributing boinc projects.

You will only get paid for your average credit, known as RAC. You can contribute to other BOINC projects and get Gridcoin as well.
