Hello,

My GTX770 ran for 2 yours but now one of its two fans, has stopped turning. I put some special clock work oil in, but that didn't help. They can be removed and replaced, however I cannot find such fan. I have searched some online electronic parts stores.
Does someone know ho these fans are called in electronics world?
And perhaps where I can buy one?

Thanks.

Did you look on ebay? I found there a replacement for my HD7950 fans.

Those custom open-air coolers usually have non-standard fans. In regular PC shops you can buy normed 80x80x25, 92x29x25, 120x120x25 etc. fans. But they have a frame (which you wouldn't want for this purpose) and no screw holes to attach to your heat sink. The frame is just plastic, however, so people have removed them somehow "McGuyver'ed" them onto the cards.

You could exchange the entire heatsink plus fans for some after-market solution, but that's more expensve and significantly more work than simply replacing a fan.

Maybe ask your card's vendor for assistance? Maybe they can ship you one, for a small fee if out of warrenty?

I noticed that one of my HD 7950 GPUs had only one of the two fans running so I did an experiment and sure enough when it reached a cetrtain temp the 2nd fan would invariably start running. Make sure that your card isn't set up the same way before replacing fans.

Thanks for the tip. I noticed a sound from my PC so listened closer and eventually replaced the back fan, but the sound remained. Using a flash light I could then see the second fan was hardly turning. Witt BOINC idle or let the card reach higher temperatures didn't help. After taking it out, the first fan does turn for a few seconds when I move with with a finger, the second one does not, so I think it is broken.

Will try ETA's tip by asking the shop.

If it won't spin freely with your finger it's cooked.

Just get an aftermarket cooler; Arctic has some really good ones!

Yes indeed. What I find at Arctic are complete sets. That is an option, however I need only one fan. I will look further.

Shouldn't it be on warranty? What brand? Contact the maker.

I had some fan failures too, and I've replaced the original fans with Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM low profile (90x90x14mm) fans.
To my surprise some of these failed (slowed) sooner than the original fans.
Low profile fans are less durable than the standard height (25mm) ones.

BTW this is my 1024th (2^10th) post :)
