Do you think that after years of running (millions of uploads and downloads) all the crunchers, all Antivirus packages and all firewalls missed a virus, right up until now? It's possible for the Windows files to not be infected while the Linux files are. The Linux files could be infected and not noticed because Linux users rarely use anti-virus software. And the infection may have happened after existing Linux users all downloaded their executables. anything that is installed on your computer uses an executable during the installation, including your antivirus package! Not true. Linux is different than windows. On Linux software is installed from non-executable packages. Obviously an executable opens the package and installs the files in the package but that executable is installed when you install Linux. It is exceedingly rare for a Linux user to download an executable. That may be unthinkable to a Windows user but that's the way Linux is. Keith, your friend has already finished and returned a task, Is it really necessary to italicize friend? He/she is just taking normal precautions. Even if that caution offends your finer sensibilities there's no reason to be deliberately insulting, especially when he/she is trying their best to attach and donate resources they pay for. | |

All right, having enough points to post now... It may be a router problem Toni was right! His pointer lead me in the right direction! Thanks Toni! Is it really necessary to italicize friend? Dragorath, thanks for your comprehension. Yes I am only taking precautions because like you said, most people are using windows or mac machines and I am 100% linux, so a bit on my "own". I already had the feeling that it was not possible that files from the project were infected, but when your antivirus gives you over 200 warnings in 3 days, there is reasons to worry about.. That is why I wrote "Can you *confirm* there is absolutely no viruses in these files?" in my last post here. No I dont think this is really possible but then again, it doesnt mean that a virus couldn't have entered the servers 5 minutes before my AV started launching warnings. After all, its cheap to ask. To recap: My AV picked up the jobs as broken exe's, I temporarily softened up the AV for now, and the jobs are now processing. We'll see where this leads to... On a different topic, I'd like to point out that I personally will not tolerate attitude, especially in a project where I give for free my resources. There is LOTS of other projects out there so the choices are not limited at all. I trust this is only miscommunication for now. Looking forward to help this project as much as I can!
