Hey folks,

firstly i am a newbie in all this boinc things, i am sorry for this. in addition my english is bad, so i hope its not to hard for you to understand what i wanne say ;)

some facts: my pc: Q8300
geforce 295gtx
4gb ram

my problems:
my graphiccard do only one workunit in the same time.

i get more than one wu by gpugrid per day, but as you can see here: http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?userid=21025&offset=0&show_names=0 my computer has a lot of "Compute errors", the result of this is that my pc do exactly one wu per day, after some hours he get a new wu and work at this, but everytime only one per day.

i've heard that the problem with multigpucards wich work only on one wu is fixable when you dissable sli. were i have to disable sli? into the nvidia driver, or into boinc (and when it is boinc, were exactly?)?

in addition i hope anyone can help me with the problem that my computer do only one task per day.

again, sorry for my english and thanks for coming answers :)

Shut down BOINC first.

You need to disable SLI. This is done via the nvidia control panel. You may have a little green coloured icon in the system tray. If you do click on it and launch the nvidia control panel. If not click on the start button -> Control panel and there will be an nvidia control panel icon in there.

In the nvidia control panel in the left-hand pane you have a 3D settings and under that one that says "Set SLI and PhysX configuration". Click on it. In the right-hand pane it will show "1. Set PhysX configuration" with a Yes/No to select and "2. Select an SLI configuation" again with a Yes/No to select. Simply select No.

Start up BOINC again and it should say (under the messages tab) that its found two cuda cards.

Your english is better than my German... :)

Ok, first things first. Once you start to error out on tasks the system will slow down issuing tasks to you so you don't crash hundreds of tasks for no good reason. It is a protection mechanism... once you start to return good tasks the number will climb right back up and you will be golden.

So, first, ***PAUL's*** opinion, get 6.5.0 or 6.6.23 for your version of BOINC. Do not, for the moment try the later versions than 6.6.23 ... they all have other issues that will just complicate things ... let us get you going first ...

Second, SLI is disabled using the Nvidia tools or video properties menu (depending on system configurations) ... I only use my GTX 295 cards for processing so this is not an issue for me. If you want to game, you CAN connect the SLI connector, you just have to disable it in the Nvidia control panel.

Next, you are using Vista, which has some troubles "seeing" the second card. You may need to attach a second monitor or dummy load to make VIsta think that there is a monitor there ... Vista also may require you to "extend" your desktop (I don't use Vista so have no idea how to do this, but likely in the properties pane of the video cards).

Fourtheenth (sorry, only sense of humor I have), you ***MAY*** have a bad driver version. There are a number of threads here where people talk of their Vista woes and suggest various versions of the drivers that worked for them.

You HAVE compeleted some tasks successfully, so, all is not lost... the other thing I would look at is the temperatures of the card.

Lastly, and sadly, the card may be bad ...

You can look about for some of the testing tools and while waiting for the next GPU GRid task run those and see if the card is bad ... there are again, a couple threads talking about that ...

Someone that is more Vista savvy should be looking in soon ... but this is the best I can do for you ...

Thanks a lot for all you help :)

In the moment i have no access to my homepc, so i will try these things in some hours and then post if it helps. i will add a second monitor then and i will see if it works.

when boinc is running i manually put my graficcard-fan at 100%, so the temperature is arround 50-60°celsius, thats a good result for this card :D

what do you exactly mean with "bad card", do you mean that my cars is maybe damaged, or that it is a bad reseller-version of an nvidia card (i have a zotac)?
the card is working fine in games AND some weeks ago, the card was running 2 SETI-tasks at the same time, what me confuse a bit oO

If a pixel is out of color or missing it is no big thing ... or to put it another way, minor mistakes by the card in calculations are no big deal.

In scientific computing, one bit errors can be catastrophic. Or to put it another way, there is little room for any kind of error. THAT said, GPU Grid is a little less forgiving of errors than say, SaH. The tolerances are different in the mathematics. So, cards that may be slightly out of "tune" may work fine for games, or even SaH, but not work here at GPU Grid.

I have seen similar things with Einstein and Rosetta where a person that massively over-clocks their machine keeps telling us that his machine is fine because it runs SaH Ok at that over-clock and does not want to hear that the instability of the machine because of the OC will not let them run work on the other projects well because they require better accuracy.

I don't seem to be doing super well today, so I hope this is enough to explain ... if not we can try again or set a date to skype as it is easier for me to talk than type.

As soon as you return good results the number of tasks per day you can DL rises. Until it hits the peak, whatever that might be. In this case it seems to be 4 ... which means I have only half a days work normally on hand.

If the second monitor does not have something on it, vista is not seeing the second GPU core, if Vista does not see it, neither will BOINC. You will have to have the monitor hooked up, and then get Vista to show something on it (extend the desktop or clone it).

Then stop and restart BOINC.

Don't disable PhysX leave that turned on and try again.

If that does not work look in the registry for

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video

you should find multiple keys like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{D82C4D9A-396A-4292-A538-A8F8F22FFEB5}\0000\Settings

and add the key

LimitVideoPresentSources DWORD 1

to each GPU.
